Competently Managing Workplace Conflict

Cooling Down “Hot Buttons” For Better Results

The research on workplace conflict suggests that 85% of employees at all levels experience conflict to some degree and US employees spend an average of nearly three hours per week dealing with conflict. If it is managed improperly it can take a major toll on productivity, operational effectiveness, morale and even health. On the other hand, if it is managed skillfully, conflict can lead to positive outcomes like better understanding of differences, improved communication, better solutions to workplace challenges/problems and major innovation.

This program will explore the typical types and dynamics of conflicts. Participants will learn the differences between those which are constructive and destructive. Participants take a conflict dynamics assessment to identify their personal “hot buttons” as well as constructive and destructive behaviors in responding. They learn techniques from social neuroscience to manage their emotions. They practice ways of creating more resourceful interpretations of conflict situations. This opens up possibilities for more creative engagement and greater confidence in knowing when and how to tackle difficult situations. Finally, they will practice a five step process for conducting conversations that lead to constructive outcomes and resolution.
